Upcoming Gigs

March 12th, 2007

There’s a fair few gigs on the horizon. Here’s some that have caught my eye:

Einsturzende Neubauten. Koko, Tuesday, 24/04/2007. Alan and I already have tickets for this one.

Twisted Records Label Party – 25th of May 2007 – Brixton Academy. “Headlining will be a live set from psychedelic funk masters, Hallucinogen in Dub only ever seen once before on stage at Glastonbury with Ott and Simon Posford (Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Younger Brother) on guitars and effects, and with the legendary Youth (producer of The Verve, Embrace & Celtic Cross) on bass. Other acts include – Maestro of the sonic arts, Ott, previewing new material from his eagerly awaited second album, Simon Posford with a thrilling Shpongle DJ set , and Benji Vaughan’s Prometheus. Old school favorites Eat Static and Koxbox need no introduction and will be playing as well as Twisted’s very own label manager Simon Holtom and other favourites including Youth, Simon Baring, Third Ear, Greg Hunter and many many more”. It’s not cheap (£25), but I’m a definite for this one.

Amon Tobin, Electric Ballroom, Wednesday, April 11, 7:00 pm. It’s only a tenner too. I saw him last summer – true ninja beats. Not to be missed.

Alec Empire, Saturday 14 April 2007, All day Event, 3PM – 2AM, Coronet Theatre. He’s doing an electronic set as part of “This is our Punk Rock”, with a large lineup including Warp DJs and a laptop set by Mira Calix. £15.00.

Murder By Death play Bush Hall, 310 Uxbridge Road, Wed 11/04/2007. It’s also only a tenner, but I think Amon wins this one. I’ve seen them 3 times over the last year though and totally recommend them.

“Reactable”

February 2nd, 2007

See demo movie

The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language.

This instrument is being developed by a team of digital luthiers (Sergi Jordà, Martin Kaltenbrunner, Günter Geiger and Marcos Alonso), at the Music Technology Group within the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.

According to a friend at work:

“That’s a nasty digital simulation of analogue synthesis! (Easy to do with an overhead tracking and a MAXMSP or SuperCollider patch )”

And he gives us these links to prove his point:

“Here’s Carsten Nicolai of Raster Noton keepin’ it real:”

“”His live shows are a wonder of analogue visuals:”
